Often, small and medium-size businesses neglect this coverage because owners don’t believe it can happen to them, especially if their business is located in a small community.
However, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners estimates that the average business loses about 6 percent of its total annual income to employee embezzlement and other fraud. One survey pegs the annual cost to business as more than $400 billion.
